Welcome to the Harris Instrument Co. home page. I hope you find your visit here
to be interesting and informative.

What's New?
Due to moving into a new home and having to tear down most of my shop I have
suspended my instrument repair services. Things should be up and running again by
this summer. I'm still building, right now I'm carving the top for an A-style mando and
I'm still taking instrument orders. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested
in a guitar or mandolin.
Bio
My earliest childhood memory is that of sitting on my dad's lap as a toddler, reaching
over and strumming his guitar as he held down the chords and sang Hank Williams
tunes. I've been actively studying and playing guitar ever since to the point of getting
a classical guitar degree in college. I became inspired to build my own guitar when I
had one commissioned for me during my time as an undergrad. It was only after
several years performing and teaching that I finally made the decision to learn this
skill.

I attended a guitar building workshop central Vermont, called Vermont Instruments.
There is a link to this on the links page. There I spent 14-16 hrs a day for two weeks
straight building my first guitar under the guidance of George Morris. It was a great
experience, and my guitar came out pretty darned good too!

Shortly after completing this course I started building my own guitars, both steel
stringed, classical and flamencos.  I've recently added mandolins to my product line.
My goal is to provide the highest quality repair work and hand crafted instruments to
the discriminating musician and collector. I take on every repair job and build every
instrument with pride and to the best of my ability. There is very little in the way of
production work in my shop. Each instrument has it's own distinct character and I
feel this is best nurtured by avoiding assembly line production whenever possible.
When I'm not creating a big pile of woodchips in my shop I enjoy
tele skiing, fly
fishing and writing songs and books. S
omeday I will have a sister website up for my
other life as an author.
What I Do

I provide an
instrument repair
and building
service for high
end, custom
guitars and
mandolins. Each
instrument is
tailored to the
needs and
specifications of
the customer. I
build classical,
flamenco and
steel string
guitars and
carved top F an A
style mandolins.
Inquire as to
other stringed
instruments. If I
can't build it for
you I probably
know someone
who can and will
happily point you
in the right
direction.
