Pricing - F style - $3000

  A style - $2250
Both styles come with flamed maple back, sides and neck and a spruce top, bone nut, ebony bridge peice,
ebony or Indian Rosewood fingerboard (your choice), Schaller tuners and a hardshell case. I use french polish
shellac or varnish as a finish. Mainly this is because I don't want to wear a hazmat suit to spray lacquer. That
being said, if you want a lacquer finish on your mandolin I can arrange for it to be done by some of my
colleagues who DO have hazmat suits!   Talk to me about what kind of staining you may or may not want to
have, I can probably figure it out.
Upgrades include wood binding -$50, pearl inlays (inquire as to what you want), electronics (inquire), different
tuners (inquire) and quilted maple back and sides.
Other tonewoods such as mahogany, walnut, cedar, etc ... can be ordered as well. Just let me know what you
have in mind and I will do my best to make it happen.

Below are some pictures documenting the construction of an F style. This was made with a single piece blue
spruce top, single piece maple back, and maple sides and neck.
This is the neck with the truss rod installed, the neck and
heel carved and the "wings" glued to the sides of the head.

Here I'm checking the inside contour of the back piece.
It works the same way for the inside of the front piece.
A shot of the headplate. I used birdseye maple for the leaf
inlay and the lettering. I just like the look and feel of wood
inlay more then pearl. The headplate and trussrod cover
are made from gaboon ebony.
Here the top is nearly complete. I did the final carving of
the scroll once the instrument was assembled.
Carving the inside of the top. This was done with a gouge and a scraper, and alot of patience.

Mandolins
The rims were bent and placed in a mold until the top was
ready to be attached.
Here's the mandolin with the top, neck and rims all attached. The
scroll is carved and was sanded to match the back scroll after the
back was attached.
The back is ready to be glued on to the rest of the instrument.
Here's the front scroll, with the bindings on. There's a little more clean
up and sanding to do before applying the stain and the finish.
"In the white". The are bindings on, the scrolls are done and it's
sanded to 150 grit.
Back scroll. "In the white"
Here's the front and back of an F style mando. It has a French polished shellac finish over a hand rubbed "tobacco burst" stain. It's pretty, easy to play
and the notes ring like little bells, especially in the mid range. Check out the pictures below showing the various stages of this instruments construction.
